You feel like you’re in a funk
You spend nights,
Lying awake in the dead of night,
You look into the depths of the night sky.
You spend days,
Going about your routine,
As though nothing will please you,
You feel like you’ve done everything to find it,
You think it’s been hiding from you,
But you’re just blinded by everything else
All the other [...]

The winds of change
Pursue
Breezing through as if
On cue
The sea of flux
Progress
Raging past the swift
Process
Even the earth
Erode
Never wanting to
Corrode
The verdict then
Is clear
The cycle we should
Hold dear

God does not forget us
Whether we are here or There
We are all in His heart
And in His heart we
Smile at each other always
We perceive ourselves as flawed
Yet we each are one
Of the eternal points of light
That makes our blazing canopy
In day, and in night
And in those mysterious moments in between.

Yes, there really was an Apollo
When certain stars reached alignment
A beautiful mask was painted
And thus we evolved in his image
Physically perfected, Apollo provided man
With someone to blame, in exchange for worship
With someone to blame for the confusion of vanity
In making women inspiration and not creators
For formulating this tidy interweave
That became humanity
His age inknown, his beauty [...]

Like Orpheus, I was longing to turn
To see if you were still there
But should you see me,
Everything would disappear
Unaware of messengers watching
One glance from you exploded the seal
On my ordinary existance. Crowded bazaars
Became our private meeting places.
Duties became intrusions and we became defiant,
As heroes were to gods -
Still children. forgetfully holding each other
Through the midnights: [...]

One evil the court protected us from
Was the brutality and whoredom of war
We hid in the grass behind the stadium
While young men played at combat for the gamblers.
In the Piraeus the battleships waited
Gold and silver changed hands
Even Amazons were recruited
To blacken the skies with arrows over Turkey.
Above the bazaars, within the garden walls
Artists made the [...]

It doesn’t take much
Your voice floats up from the street
Echoing in the emptiness
The moon looks down
It could be Athens, you hiding in the
Martble garden outside the women’s quarters
One quick whisper sent up to me
Eching in the empty coldness
The moon looking down
Like the moon to earth, I, so drawn to you,
Whispering back with kisses spilling with [...]

Musicians and tumblers filled the court
Weaving through our dances in the aisles
of reclining nobles
Roasted cinnamon and wine stained aristocratic linens
Lazy and pampered ambassadors
Reached out to stroke our legs
I longed to return to the ceremony of the bull dance
(Frankincense burning our throats
Swallow hard, don’t let the tears gather
One lost moment and a pirouette could fail
Hands could [...]

Familiar cafe could be anywhere
I sit in the backstreet of the bazaar, Athens
See your lips forming my name
As you race down the hill, face glistening
From your long day’s songwork under an actor’s mask.
Having left the women’s quarters disguised as a
Manservant, I tremble in this unscheduled secret
Spring fast into the crowd, into your arms
Run with you [...]

Ice melting on my eye
Running like spring into warm meadows
Even the distance between us is precious
In this universe that has no space
Today’s crossroads are the convergence
Of hundreds years of dreams,
In this universe that has no time
Snowflakes falling on my face
Melting like ghostly kisses
The stroke of a glance
Ocean and sky the same hazy blue
I draw the [...]
