July Fourth
Marching bands
Um pa pa.
Kids on bikes
Ooh la la.
Fire engines clanging
Oh ma ma.
Politicians waving
Playing the crowd.
Sweating marchers
Puffing aloud.
Is this what it is
All about?
Is this the reason
We all shout?
Nothing meantioned
About the men who bled,
Or of those who lie dead.
These are the ones
We should honor today.
These are the ones who
Paved the way.
They paid the price
For our liberty,
They are the ones
Who set us free.
We should forget
The ballyhoo,
And praise all the men
Who paid their due.
This day should be spent
In solemn prayer,
For all the brave men
Who did
Their share.
May they all rest
In peaceful sleep.
May God grant them
Serenity in His keep.

Tom I really appreciate your sense of patriotism, it weaves its way through most of your poems. Truly you are a patently patriotic poet
