Underneath the pain
In a Country by your side
Underneath the suffering
That so many sleep to hide

Underneath the tremors
There’s no Mother for a child
Underneath the rubble
Is what’s left of broken smiles

Underneath the bridge
Is a man without a home
Underneath the moonlight
There’s a child who cries alone

Underneath the remnants
Children played without a fear
Underneath the blanket
An infant clings to life so dear

Underneath the tragedy
It’s up to us to make a start
Underneath the grief
A chance to unbreak someones heart

Underneath the dreams
That were shattered in a glance
Underneath the ruins
Is help to build a second chance

Underneath the sun
Where lovers long to sail away
Underneath the gray sky
A child survives another day

Underneath disaster
Is a longing to reach out
Underneath this calling
Desire burns through all self doubt

Mokeeta, Mokeeta; the soft winds are calling;
Oh where are you sleeping? Oh where can you be?
I miss you MOKEETA, when twilight is falling-
Oh why then so SILENT? Oh why then so far?
I miss you MOKEETA, Oh where can you be?

Far in the twilight your brown hair is gleaming-
I see your bright eyes in a faraway star!
I still hear your voice on the soft winds,Mokeeta;
Oh why then so SILENT? where summer dreams are.
Oh why then so silent? Oh why then so far?

I miss you Mokeeta, when twilight is falling’
The West is aflame, like a far golden sea!
Come on the CLOUDS where the wild wind is calling!
Come back on the RED SAILS of SUNSET to me.
Come back again, on the twilight, to me!

This life is a dream, tho an unending battle-
They say we are made up of CARBIDES and TEA-
But JOHN got a truck and he hauled home the cattle-
While I and MOKEETA sailed on the dim sea.
SHE CAME THROUGH THE TWILIGHT , AND MOONLIGHT TO ME!

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom, by the sea-
Forgotten now, but I loved her so-
And her name was…ANABEL LEE!
And she sleeps by the sounding sea.
Down by the sounding sea.

And there is never a song so dear-
Till lifes last tale is told-
And over her tomb, the silver moon,
Turns all her beams to gold-
Turn al her silver beams to gold-
And far across the sea-
The winds forever sing the song-
The song of Annabel Lee!

nd the stars never rise
But I feel thebright eyes
Of beautiful Annabel Lee!
And the moon never beams
Without bringing the dreams-
The old dreams of Annabel Lee
Down by the side of the shifting sand-
Down by the sounding sea!

When I was young, there was a song-”when I leave The World Behind”-
I’ll leave the sunshine, for the summer-
I’ll leave the tree tops, for the breeze,
I’ll leave the moon above, for those in love-

When I leave the world, behind!

I’ll leave the moonlight, for the dreamers,
I’ll leave the great ships for the seas-
And for the “Old Folks” I’ll leave the memory
Of a baby upon their knees!

Ill leave the grainfields for the harvest-
ill leave the rows of russeling corn!
ill leave the skies of drifting rain-
ill leave the old daus for your memories,
When I leave the world behind!

Ill leave a path for you to follow,
In these little songs of mine-
Ill leave the golden leaves of autumn-
When I leave the world behind!

Ohmother laughs an mother chaffs, but mother dont know thin-
How aweful dirty Fritize was when he began to sing!

Ill leave the sunshine for the flowers-
Ill leave the roses for the dew-
Ill leave the moonlight on the water-
When I leave the world to you!

Ill leave thses songs, Ill leave my fiddles,
Ill leave the old magnolia tree-
Ill leave the sighing winds of summer
When I leave the world to thee!

When I leave the world behind!

When the summer days are fading
And the gold hangs in the tree
When the prairie sunsets gleaming-
And the wind sings, longingly-
When the work is finally over-
And happy days are gone-
And you look across the grainfields-
Then you’ll remember me!

When the shades of twilight linger-
And the evening shadows long-
When the heart sings of the summer
When the golden years are gone-
When there can be no more dreaming-
And the golden years are gone-
In the last long days of summer-
Then you’ll remember me!

When the evening twilight lingers-
And the far off cattle bawl-
When its night time in Dakota-
In a dreary moonlit sky-
hen you sing the old songs over
From days that used to be-
When its nighttime on the prairie-
Then youll remember me!

Then the little dog looked up at me-
And his eyes were soft and dim….
“And did he remember Annabel Lee?
“And did she remember him?”

There is no song so dear to me-
Till lifes last tale is told-
and over her tomb, the silver moon
Turns all her beams, to gold!

Was there a valley of singing trees?
And a kingdom by the sea?
And was there a girl who ran along
By the name of “Annabel Lee”?
Do you think that the Angels cried
When Annabel Lee was gone?

And the moon never beamed
But the Poet dreamed
Of his beautiful Annabel Lee-
And his thoughts went back
To the haunted tomb
Down by the lonely sea……
“TO HER TOMB….BY THE SOUNDING SEA!

My youth is gone, for many a year,
But the moon and the stars still gleam!
And I can never read Annabel Lee
Without going back, in a dream.

An the little valley they left one day
Is the same as it used to be-
And Poe said he was happy there……
IN THAT KINGDOM…….BY……THE……SEA!

And the moon never beams,
Without bringing him drams-
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee………
Yes the moon never beams,
Without bringing him dreams
And the stars that were beight as her eyes……
And the springtime valley they left one day….
Still under the moonlight lies.

Someday, you will read Edgar Allan Poe’s, “Annable Lee” as I did long ago.

For many and many a year ago-
In a kingdom, by the sea……
A lonely poet wrote a song,
And called it “Annabel Lee”…….

They call him “The-Haunted-Poet” now….
“And the stars were as bright as her eyes!”
And the valley they left, on that faroff day….
STILL….UNDER….THE….MOONLIGHT….LIES!

THERE IS NO SING SO DEAR TO ME……..
Till life’s last tale is told!
AND OVER HER TOMB….THE SILVER MOON….
Turns all her beams…….TO GOLD!

Then the little dog looked up at me……
AND HIS EYES WERE SOFT AND DIM!……
“And….did HE remember ANNABEL LEE….????

Was there a valley of “Singing Trees?”

The little valley they left one day
Still under the moonlight gleames….
And POE said He was happy there….

MY HEART……is not in the City;
With its crowds moveing where no one knows-
It is out in the hills of the PRAIRIE:
With their strong SWEEPING WINDS-
And their SNOWS!

Its out where the stacks of the harvest
Once stood in the trail of the “Boo”-
Who came humming along with his PITCHFORK;
And….stayed till the NORTHERLEES BLOW!

Its out where the SUNSETS ARE GLEAMING-
In purple and russet and GOLD!
And I’m THERE, tho I know I am dreaming-
ONLY DREAMS, OF THE GLAD DAYS OF OLD!

Its a WIDE PRAIRIE LAND, and its calling-
Me back to my TRACTOR and PLOW;
And I know it will ALWAYS BE MY LAND…..
THE HOME OF MY HEART, IN THE HILLS.

Where the wild flowers bloom, in the Springtime-
And the “thunder heads” roll in the WEST;
And the moonlight comes stealing and stealing
Through the night, from those old SKIES OF DREAM!

YOU may think I was “making a poem”-
I am NOT…..I AM WEAVING A SONG-
Like the songs that the wind sang in summer,
To the heart of a child…. ALL DAY LONG!

The roses still bloom in the wheatfield-
And the WEST is a bright sea of gold-
Tho I try, Oh I know I can’t tell you-
ALL THESE STORIES…My Memories Told!

He put his arms around her-
It made the poor girl sick;
Was is true? what her Pa said?
That “he was a-damn-poor-stick?”

HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND HER;
She was far away from HOME-
She told him “I NEARLY FROZE TO DEATH!”
In……my little bed… alone.

He put his arms around her-
But that was away last week;
An his new car was ready to go-
It ran without a SQUEAK.

He put his arms around her-
Another girl was there;
She smelled just like the danceing girl
They had down at the “Fair”.

The wind sings through the pinetrees;
The worlds most mournfull song:
There are SHADOWS in the moonlight
And the RIVER ROLLS ALONG.

He swung his arms around her-
The color left her cheeks-
For she’d forgot her “Baby Pills”
For past about a week!

I met her down beside a moonlit river;
We built a Home of Dreams, and happy days;
We did not say GOODBYE, and leave forever,
Our LOVE SONG still is there, in the Autumn Leaves!

When summers gold hangs on the tree-
She comes back through the moonlight, to me;
And far on the tide, long that old riverside,
GLEAMS THE BRIDGE THAT WE LOVED, made of gold!

They ALWAYS will be ours, those GOLDEN DAYS,
Nor all the YEARS can fade them into gray-
The moonlight still can light our path a ways-
The path that leads us back….to GOLDEN DAYS.

She come back through the moonlight, to me;
When Autumns Gold hangs on the tree-
WHEN AUTUMNS GOLD HANGS ON THE TREE-
And the night breezes sing of a far away Spring-
By the river with waves made of gold.

“It was many and many a year ago…..
In a Kingdom By The Sea!”

These words bring back the long ago-
And the days of “Annabel Lee”!

Then the little dog looks up at me-
And his eyes are soft and dim-
“And did He remember “Annabel Lee?”
“And did she remember him?”

There is no song so dear to me-
Till lifes last tale is told:
AND OVER HER TOMB, THE SILVER MOON,
TURNS ALL HER BEAMS…TO GOLD!

Was there a valley of singing trees?
And a “KINGDOM BY THE SEA?”
And was there a girl who ran along-
BY THE NAME, OF, ANNABEL LEE?
And the moon never beamed, but the Poet dreamed,
OF HIS BEAUTIFUL ANNABEL LEE!
And his thoughts went back to the haunted tomb-
DOWN…BY….THE…….SOUNDING….SEA!

TO HER TOMB….BY..THE…SOUNDING….SEA!

My youth is gone for many a year-
But the moon, and the stars still gleam!
And I can never read “Annabel Lee”
Without going back….in a dream.

And the little valley they left one day,
In the Poets used to be…..
Was a LAND, where the “Haunted POE” was glad,
IN A KINGDOM BY THE SEA!

And the moon never beams
Without bringing his dreams…..
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee…
Yes…the moon never beams…
Without bringing him dreams-
AND THE STARS THAT WERE BRIGHT AS HER EYES!
And the Springtime Valley They left one day….
STILL….UNDER…THE…..MOONLIGHT…..LIES.

While he pondered, NEARLY NAPPING,
SUDDENLY he heard a tapping-
Like a “B” girl lightly rapping-
Rapping on his chamber door-
While the moonlight climbed the curtain-
‘Tis the wind…. and nothing more!

Long into that darkness peering-
Ohh what was it he was fearing?
While he dreamed the dreams, no Mortal
Ever DARED to dream before!

So it was to still the beating
Of his heart he stood repeating-
Wonder what happened to that B girl?
Who was tapping on my door?

Then the wind brought back an echo
Of the whispered word…. LENORE!
Of that fair and Sainted Maiden-
WHOME THE ANGELS NAMED…. LENORE!

Then he saw a drifting shadow
In the moonlight, o’er the meadow;
Just a SHADOW, in the moonlight,
WAS IT HER?… THE LOST LENORE?

Was SHE there? that Sainted Maiden?
From that far off distant Aden?
Or the SHADOW of the Maiden?
Whome the Angels named LENORE?

Then the POET, weak and weary,
Dreaming on that midnight dreary,
DREAMED HIS LAST DREAM OF THE MAIDEN-
WHOME THE ANGELS NAMED….LENORE!

And the NIGHT MOON, like a shadow,
To his chamber…. COMES NO MORE!
