(1)My first Blue Mountains journeys were on Sydney’s country trains,
With scenery improving, once I’d gone past Emu Plains.
I did not know the passengers around me, but perhaps one
Might care to play a card game, since we’d only come to Lapstone
(2)I closed my vintage fiction novel fast. So I could then look,
To see surrounding bushland, as [...]

The song of love is a sad song-
I followed the trail and I know-
The song of lvoe is an old song-
And we lost it long ago!
The song of love is a bright song-
Tho bound in pain and woe-
The song of love is a dear old song-
FROM THE DAYS OF LONG AGO!
Say Darling Say-
When I am [...]

If we could trade away our “lost tomorrows”
And win with them the “Years that used to be”-
The young girl, with the brown eyes’
By the table…..the whispering winds in Spring-
That sang to me!
The crimson tinted clouds of Early Morning-
The summerdays so softly laid to rest!
The rustling corn, the night,
With twiight falling-
Of all these days, which do [...]

Editor:- I am 71 years old now, and have read the Dakota Farmer all my life. Today I thought I would send you this song I just wrote. Thought you may need a Spring-song! Seems strange, but when I think of farming, I see the old days, and the horses, and the great, quiet fields. I [...]

I feel the the dew
from the fresh cut
grass beneath my
bare feet. The
sweet, alluring scent
of the blossoming
trees catches my
attention as the warm,
peaceful breeze wraps
me in comfort. I
find myself wondering
in a bed of flowers and
just in the middle stands
a delicate, red rose.
The divine beauty stands
as if it is about to speak
for itself. I awaken to
a beautiful spring [...]

The pheasants are starving in
four foot af snow!
With Northerners blowing, at
twenty below!
Out there in the Soil Bank, wher
snowdrifts are deep.
The pheasants are lying, for-
ever to sleep!
The news came from Washington,
right from the wire-
“Feed-the-poor-pheasants!” like
a prairie on fire!
John found a pheasant, its last
strength was shorn,
And it died in his hand, too late
to eat corn!
The pheasants get [...]

Oh the happy, happy Farmer,
He is getting ready now-
To harness up the horses,
And attach them to the plow!
The wild geese flying over-
Flying far- and flying free-
Oh, the Prairie Farmers dreaming-
There his greatest pleasures be!
He can hear the wild geese calling
Flying free, and flying far-
And the tired Farmer’s dreaming-
There his only pleasures are!
Theres a hill, away [...]

Then the little dog looked up at me-
And his eyes were soft and dim….
“And did he remember Annabel Lee?
“And did she remember him?”
There is no song so dear to me-
Till lifes last tale is told-
and over her tomb, the silver moon
Turns all her beams, to gold!
Was there a valley of singing trees?
And a kingdom by [...]

Someday, you will read Edgar Allan Poe’s, “Annable Lee” as I did long ago.
For many and many a year ago-
In a kingdom, by the sea……
A lonely poet wrote a song,
And called it “Annabel Lee”…….
They call him “The-Haunted-Poet” now….
“And the stars were as bright as her eyes!”
And the valley they left, on that faroff day….
STILL….UNDER….THE….MOONLIGHT….LIES!
THERE IS [...]

MY HEART……is not in the City;
With its crowds moveing where no one knows-
It is out in the hills of the PRAIRIE:
With their strong SWEEPING WINDS-
And their SNOWS!
Its out where the stacks of the harvest
Once stood in the trail of the “Boo”-
Who came humming along with his PITCHFORK;
And….stayed till the NORTHERLEES BLOW!
Its out where the SUNSETS [...]
