I was driving down a short road
I asked my mother where are you living, behind Dad’s doors?
Do you wish for more?
I see a hint of Mother’s smile
as she hides behind her broken eyes.
Above her pictures of angels and Jesus
but still I wonder how and when Mother got
so pure carrying me inside her womb.
Was she locked [...]

Where does it go?
Where does it go?
When it grows old
Somewhere over the rainbow it waits
It flies with the sun
Through the burgundy moments
Of a day
And into the night
In the perils of silence
Where does it go?
When your soul changes
Have you forgotten
Can it fly like a flutterfly
With the colors of life
Swimming through its skin
Where does it go?
When its let [...]

I Passed Away Last Weekend
I work part-time as a funeral attendant. Hopefully that explains the motive for this writing. Just trying to put a little humour into a serious subject.
Well, here I am.
I never expected it to happen this soon,
but I passed away last weekend.
Stupid horse,
I told them I didn’t like horses,
too much power for an animal that gets [...]

Coffee
Coffee
When I awake each morning
I head right for the pot
To brew my cup of coffee
Black and steaming hot.
The first cup works its magic
Without it my day
Would be tragic.
The fragrant aroma so teasing
To my senses it’s so pleasing.
I’m now set to face the day
My worries washed away
Thank heavens I must say
For that first cup of coffee
That [...]

Feelings of Love
Love can calm you down like cool rain
Love can also be a pain.
Love can work wonders
Love can also make you ponder.
Love is a key to an open door
and find in your heart there’s room for more.
Love can be blind or love can be kind,
but you will always find
there’s a place in your heart.
No matter when [...]

Drugs Instead Of Hugs
For me this is a work of fiction, but for many others, it is everyday life.
Drug abuse has no redeeming value. All it does is destroy.
I dream about a better day,
And wish my fears would pass,
And I could live in perfect peace,
And then look back and laugh.
Instead, I live with doubt and pain,
And worry [...]

The Day The World Stopped (911)
It was the day we lost our innocence,
When human nature showed its worst,
And its best.
A day of terror,
Remorse,
Fear and anguish.
September 11, 2001,
The day the world stopped.
I sat watching the pictures in disbelief,
Knowing in my mind what was happening,
But in my heart, believing this could never be.
My plan that day was to buy a new computer,
But [...]

Wealth Got In The Way
The girl was from a wealthy home,
And he was very poor,
They both were told they shouldn’t wed,
But thought their love was sure.
The boy was raised in poverty,
And she, with silver spoon,
And people told them they should wait,
But they were wed in June.
Now, he had naught of worldly goods,
But had a heart so true,
The man was, [...]

Big City Wilderness
Big city wilderness, what can compare?
Folks by the millions, in lone solitaire,
Looking, not seeing the traffic around,
Heading to work and then home they are bound.
No time for chatter or saying “Good Day”,
In a big hurry, they go their own way,
Whether by subway or taxi or bus,
“Nothing is perfect”, they rant and they cuss.
Playing the markets [...]

Your Poems Your Stories: Pioneers
There are two people who have helped get Your Poems Your Stories (YPYS) off the ground and I want to dedicate this page to them. I am granting them the status of YPYS Pioneers.
