Work

I’m busy doing nothing
I do it all day long
It’s tiring and its burdensome
I’m doing it all wrong.

I work at it with diligence
I take tremendous care
this idleness is tiring me
I have no time to spare.

I fend off work ferociously
there’s nothing I’d not dare
painstakingly and tediously
I sit here in my chair.

When sun goes down and day is gone
I sigh with great relief
I managed to do nothing
and stole time like a thief.

I love this! If only it were true; I mean I actually tried what you write about. I retired from my career over two years ago and tried just doing nothing. I really, really tried! It was so hard. Now I have two part-time jobs and it is so much easier now.

The problem is, you kind of have to be a real loser to succeed in doing nothing for very long. Some people try to spread the idea that “doing nothing is fun.” What garbage! Where does this come from. Maybe doing something DIFFERENT from what you normally do is fun. Like … making poetry blogs! Or baking cakes (if that isn’t what you do at work).

Or maybe a little bit of doing nothing here and there is fine.

But I go nuts if I can’t do anything!
(The author of that poem knows this  )
